Message from Dean Philip Pizzo

This site is one result of the School of Medicine’s Senior Faculty Transitions Task Force, which, over the course of the 2007-08 academic year, developed recommendations about policies, procedures and resources through which advice and guidance could be provided to senior faculty about career and life planning.

A key recommendation of the Task Force was the development of this site as a readily accessible, centralized information source related to senior faculty transitions.  I want to underscore that when I refer to transitions I am not specifically highlighting retirement. Indeed I would argue that most of our senior faculty are more interested in how their personal transitions, whatever form they take, are associated with new opportunities and challenges -- whether in education, research, patient care or other activities within the university or community. Indeed we should be thinking about making senior transitions another exciting facet of a career in academic medicine and science.

Additional information will be added to this site over the coming months. In the meantime, I hope you find this site useful and would welcome comments on how we could improve it to be more helpful.
