Postdoctoral Scholars

Certificate of Completion

Stanford University issues Certificates of Completion for postdoctoral scholars at the request of their faculty mentor at the end of their appointment.

The Certificate is an official University document that bear the name of the department, signatures and University seal.  In the case of clinical departments at the School of Medicine, the name of the Division is included.  Names of specific fellowships or subspecialties may not be printed on the Certificate.

Certificates can only document the period of time for which they were directly appointed though the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs at Stanford University.  Certificates are not issued for any periods of time where the trainee/scholar was appointed through a different office or a different status at Stanford, i.e., if the individual only held an appointment through the Graduate Medical Education office at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, appointed through HHMI or held a Visiting Scholar, Visiting Student or staff position.

Certificates are produced on a quarterly basis following the submission of a notice of termination to the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs.  Printed certificates are mailed to department administrators to secure faculty signatures before mailing the certification to the postdoctoral scholar.
