Third consultations on elections with the Chairs of Regional Groups and Coordinators of
Constituencies, held during the Bonn Climate Change Conference, Tuesday 16 May 2017
The third consultations on the nominations for the elections were convened on Tuesday 16 May, 2017, and
chaired by Vice President Mr. Helmut Hojesky.
Chairs and Coordinators agreed on a proposed way forward for the re-election of the APA Co-Chairs, Ms. Jo
Tyndall and Ms. Sarah Baashan, which will be reported to the APA at the closing on Thursday, 18 May
2017.
The next consultations on elections will be convened during the Climate Change Conference in November 2017.
Second consultations on elections with the Chairs of Regional Groups and Coordinators of Constituencies, held
during the Bonn Climate Change Conference, Monday 15 May 2017
The second consultations on the nominations for the elections were convened on Monday 15 May, 2017, and
chaired by Vice President Mr. Helmut Hojesky.
Vice President Hojesky thanked Chairs and Coordinators for the nominations received for the re-election of
the APA Co-Chairs, Ms. Jo Tyndall and Ms. Sarah Baashan.
Vice President Hojesky reminded Chairs and Coordinators to submit the nominations for the SBSTA Vice-Chair
and the APA Rapporteur as soon as possible.
For the election of the APA Bureau, there was a common understanding by the Chairs and Coordinators that the
APA Co-Chairs should continue to lead the negotiations until the APA session to be convined with COP 24
(November 2018), to ensure the smooth and efficient completion of the work programme under the Paris
Agreement. In this regard, Chairs and Coordinators are consulting with their groups and constituencies on
possible conclusions to be recommended to the APA.
The next consultations on elections will be convened on Tuesday, 16 May 2017.
First consultations on elections with the Chairs of Regional Groups and Coordinators of
Constituencies, held during the Bonn Climate Change Conference, Tuesday 9 May 2017
The first consultations on the nominations for the election of officers under the Convention, the Kyoto
Protocol and the Paris Agreement bodies were convened on Tuesday 9 May, 2017 and chaired by Mr. Helmut
Hojesky, Vice-President of the COP/CMP Bureau.
Noting that nominations for the positions of two Co-Chairs and Rapporteur for the APA Bureau and for
SBSTA Vice-Chair are pending, Vice President Hojesky urged Chairs and Coordinators to intensify their
consultations and submit these nominations by the deadline of Friday, 12 May 2017.
The Chair of the Asia Pacific Group submitted today the nomination of the Prime Minister of Fiji, H.E. Hon.
Josaia Vorege Bainimarama, for election as President of COP 23/CMP 13/CMA 1.2.
Chairs and Coordinators informed that their internal consultations are in good progress and they will
submit their nominations by the deadlines.
