Sidewalk, Curb and Gutter Repair Program

The City's Sidewalk Repair Program repairs and replaces damaged sidewalks, curbs, and gutters to improve access and enhance pedestrian safety. Sidewalk repairs are conducted to improve the safety and structural integrity of the sidewalk, and to enhance accessibility. Curb ramps and detectable warning surfaces (truncated domes) will be installed at each intersection within the project areas. Repair of curbs and gutters addresses ponding problems on small isolated sections of curb and gutter that have been lifted by tree roots.

The City's Infrastructure Blue Ribbon Commission identified a $3.7 million backlog in sidewalk repairs.  Beginning in the current fiscal year, an additional $1 million has been added to the annual sidewalk repair program to increase its effectiveness and reduce the backlog.

The City also has a “Hot Spot” program to address sidewalk and curb ramp requests on a case by case basis. “Hot Spot” repair priority will be based upon the severity of the damage. Please use the Palo Alto 311 mobile application to report a problem with sidewalks, curbs, or gutters.
