Teaching Statement

Jeff Chambers is a Lecturer teaching S353, "Entrepreneurship: Formation of New Ventures", with Jim Ellis and Michael Child. Mr. Chambers has spent over 30 years with TA Associates, a private equity firm, investing in rapidly growing companies in the business services, consumer, healthcare and technology industries. In his section of S353, he hopes to explore the many ways entrepreneurs form, finance, and build their companies, and to discuss and evaluate the pros, cons, and risks of various business models.

Bio

Jeff Chambers joined TA Associates, a Boston-based private equity firm, upon graduation from Stanford in 1980 and opened its West Coast office with Mike Child in 1982. He became a Managing Director in 1984 and served on TA’s Executive Committee from 1988 to 2010. He managed TA’s West Coast office until 2011 and remains a Managing Director. TA Associates today manages $16 billion of capital.

Mr. Chambers is currently on the boards of 5.11 Tactical and Circle Graphics, and he monitors the firm’s investment in Millennium Laboratories. He has served on the boards of numerous public and private company boards during his career, including Asurion, Jenny Craig and McAfee Associates.

Mr. Chambers earned an AB, cum laude, in Economics from Harvard College (1976), and his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business (1980). He worked for Meredith Associates, a consulting firm based in Westport, CT, before returning to business school. He is a Board member of Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and the Stanford Management Company, and he serves on the Investment Committees of Eastside Preparatory School and Sacred Heart Schools-Atherton. Mr. Chambers was a Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at the GSB from 1998 to 2001 and returned to this position in 2011.

A native of Michigan, Mr. Chambers and his wife, Andi Okamura, live in Atherton, CA.
