Resume Database

The Resume Database is an online tool, subscriptions for which are purchased by employers to market and target students proactively based on your answers to the “Resume Database” questions on the student profile.

You can see a list of employers who have purchased the resume book here on the Resumes & Cover Letters page on MyGSB, in the Resume Database Orders section.

  1. Start by logging in to My Career Dashboard.
  2. Select the Account/Resume Manager menu
  3. Click on the Upload New button
  4. Upload your updated resume (as a Word document using the GSB template)
  5. Preview your resume
  6. Mark resume as active by selecting the yellow star icon

When the deadline passes, CMC staff will lock your active resume and you will not be able to make edits to the active resume or make a different resume active.  Next, we will review all submitted resumes to address any formatting issues.  Our vendor will then publish the resume database and notify employers and schools.  Once the resume database has been published, we will unlock the active resumes, and you will be able to make changes.

Yes.  After the resume database has been published, we will unlock the active resumes and you will be able to upload and designate a resume as active so that it can be visible to employers.

No, this general resume is for the resume database only. When you apply to specific job opportunities, you can tailor your resume for specific job opportunities and upload it into the Dashboard.  You may upload and store up to 99 different resumes, e.g., “Your Name” PE resume, “Your Name” brand management resume, “Your name” Eli Lilly resume, etc.

Locking your active resume means that students won’t be able to edit it or designate a different resume as active.  Active resumes are locked until the resume database is published to employers and students.

The short answer is yes, but not right away.  After the resume database has been published, we will unlock the active resumes and you will be able to upload and designate a resume as active so that it can be visible to employers.  If you find yourself in this situation, please send an email to cmc@gsb.stanford.edu so that we can keep the right team members informed.

After the resume database has been published, employers and classmates will be able to see your resume as long as you a) submitted your resume, b) marked it as active, and c) answered ‘yes’ to the profile questions dealing with permissions - Permissions - Employer Resume Database and Permissions - Student Resume Database.

Please note that employers are not able to see your profile answers or even the resume file name, only the document itself.

The interface for employers is simply a list of names of students who have indicated their willingness to participate in the resume database by answering Yes to the “Permission – May Employers View My Resume?” question on the student profile.  Employers can also search for students using the questions that are prefaced by the words “Resume Database” on the student profile.

Your classmates’ resumes are not visible via the dashboard until after the resume database has been published.  After the resume database has been published, log in to the dashboard and click on the link in the ”Search Resumes” widget, found on the main landing page.  When the new window opens up, select the “Candidate Search” tab and then select the “Create Search” button to use the search criteria.

Employers – both recruiters and GSB alumni - request that each business school’s resumes be formatted in a consistent manner so that the review process is simpler for them.  Many, if not all of our peer business schools request or require a resume template for their resume databases.  For more information and to see the GSB Resume Template, go to our Resumes page on myGSB.

The main issue with uploading a PDF document is that our team will be unable to quickly resolve any formatting issues we see as part of our review.  If you have already submitted your resume in PDF format, you do not need to resubmit – we will reach out to you directly if any changes need to be made.

We have found that mac users who upload PDF resumes occasionally don’t see the document after it’s been uploaded.  However, the document has more than likely been uploaded successfully.  If you find yourself in this situation, email the cmc@gsb.stanford.edu mailbox and ask one of the staff members to confirm that the resume is visible.
