Spiritual Care

At Stanford Children’s Health, exceptional care is nurturing care. We know that attending to the special spiritual and emotional needs of children and families is an important part of the healing process. Our staff chaplains serve patients of all faith traditions and those who follow no traditional faith. A chaplain is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to offer comfort and spiritual support to our patients and families.

Chaplains can offer compassionate listening and emotional support at any time during your hospitalization. If desired, our chaplains can provide you with spiritual support in the form of prayers or blessings, religious rituals such as baptisms or naming ceremonies, and rituals to honor your loved one at the end of life. Chaplains are also available to assist you in receiving the sacraments, observing your personal religious practices, and celebrating religious holidays

Request Chaplain Services

You may ask your nurse to page the on-call chaplain at any time. To contact a chaplain directly, call (650) 497-8000 and ask for the 2PRAY pager (27729) to reach the on-call chaplain.

Visit the Chapel

Located on the second floor of the hospital, near the entrance to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, our interfaith chapel is always open to people of all spiritual and faith traditions. It offers a peaceful place for prayer, meditation, or quiet reflection.

Copies of scriptures and holy writings from many faith traditions can be found in the chapel. A more comprehensive resource library, including children’s books, is in the chaplain’s office. Please call Chaplaincy Services at (650) 497-8538 for more information.
