Pulmonary & Cystic Fibrosis Services

Premature infants: Many premature infants suffer from chronic lung damage and respiratory distress syndrome, that often heals as they grow with medications and other treatments. For children who suffer from bronchopulmonary dysplasia, our team offers at-home oxygen support and nutrition counseling, as well as a variety of medical treatments. We work closely with neonatologists in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to develop the best treatment plans for when the babies go home with their families.

Pediatric asthma: Our pediatric pulmonary team collaborates with the Division of Immunology and Allergy to design a customized plan of care for your child or infant with asthma, including allergy testing and exercise evaluation.

Accidents: Kids can be unpredictable, and may sometimes accidentally swallow, inhale or choke on anything from small toys to dangerous fumes. Our team can locate, diagnose and remedy even potentially serious problems quickly.

Cystic fibrosis (CF): CF mainly affects the lungs and the digestive systems in the body, causing problems with breathing and digesting foods. A chronic disease that currently has no cure, CF is one of the most common—and serious—genetic (inherited) diseases in America. And we have the largest programs in Northern California to help kids with this disease.

Lung transplant: For some children a lung transplant may be a life-saving solution. Our transplant team has the highest success rate for pediatric lung transplants in the world.

Respiratory allergies: We provide nurturing diagnostic, therapeutic and consultative care for children with respiratory allergies, exercise-induced asthma and acute or chronic allergies or infections that affect the airways.

Sleep problems: Sometimes infants and children don't sleep well because they’re not breathing easily. Our team performs diagnostic sleep studies and works with the Sleep Center at Stanford Hospital and Clinics to test children who demonstrate sleeping problems.
