Pediatric Transplant Center Overview

We know that a successful transplant can make a dramatic difference for a child who needs it. But at the Transplant Center at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, we also focus on innovations that may help your child avoid a transplant altogether. Our goal in either case is the same: to deliver outstanding medical care in an environment that makes your child, whatever their age, feel like a kid, not a patient.

With transplant subspecialties in kidney, liver, intestine, heart, lung and stem cell, as well as combined transplants across these disciplines, our Transplant Center provides high-quality, comprehensive services in an exclusively child- and family-centered setting.

Our transplant teams specialize in treating high-risk patients and complex cases, including liver tumors, rare genetic disorders and combined transplants, as well as some of the smallest, youngest and sickest patients. Despite how fragile our patients may be, our outcomes consistently remain among the best in the nation.

Deep expertise and experience are key to our outstanding outcomes. Our pediatric transplantation program was named #1 in the nation for volume in 2014 by the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network. This means that we performed more transplant procedures than any other children’s hospital in the country. We were also awarded with gold level recognition from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration for our organ, eye, and tissue donation outreach efforts in 2014-15. As the national leader in pediatric organ transplantation, this award reaffirms the positive impact that our transplant center has on not only our patients but also the larger community as well.

Research and innovation keep us on the leading edge of transplant medicine through our affiliation with Stanford University School of Medicine and Stanford Hospitals & Clinics. Our transplant specialists are also specialists in the care of children, making our hospital the best choice for kids and parents alike.
