Managing Associate – Urban Transport, WRI India

Bio

Umang is a Managing Associate – Urban Transport at WRI India. He coordinates technical support for bus operations, bus rapid transit projects, intermediate public transport and non-motorized transport projects. He is also actively involved in various capacity building training workshops across the country and is also a member of the Bureau of Indian Standards working group on framing standards for smart cities. He also leads FedEx’s Vehicles and Fuels program in India for which he was awarded the Fred Bruggraf award.

Umang has several research papers to his credit and was also awarded the best research paper award at the Urban Mobility India conference in 2014. He has also coauthored publications namely Bus Karo version 1.0 and 2.0. He has made significant contributions to improving the bus systems in the city of Jaipur which was recognized as “WRI’s Top Institutional Excellence Outcome for 2011” as well as to the Bhopal Bus Rapid Transport project. Umang has over 8 years of experience in the field of urban transport.

Prior to working at EMBARQ India, he was involved in consultancy projects in the field of public transport. Chief among these include preparing a bus operations plan for the city of Bathinda, Punjab and also preparing RFP and concession agreements for various mass rapid transport services in India.

Umang has been formally trained as an economist and a transport planner. He holds a Masters degree in Economics, and a Masters degree in Planning with a specialization in Transport from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.
