Basic Science Teaching Program
| Purpose: | To help medical schools meet faculty development needs of basic science teachers who face ever-increasing demands and challenges. |
| Program: | To meet this goal, we developed a "Basic Science Teaching" curriculum -- a revised version of the SFDC's "Clinical Teaching" curriculum -- that is tailored for basic science faculty and teaching assistants. Modifications include video vignettes re-enacting actual teaching interactions collected from institutions around the country. |
| Training: | To disseminate this curriculum, we have extended our train-the-trainer model conducting "Facilitator Retraining" courses that prepare previously trained SFDC facilitators to deliver this teaching improvement course to basic science teachers at their home sites. |
| Results: | The revised workshop has been disseminated locally at Stanford, nationally, and internationally. Initial evaluation data show positive effects of the training on participants' knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to teaching. |
