Ke Yuan, second from left, receives the AHA Cournand and Comroe Award, the top award for a young investigator offered by the AHA 3CPR Council for her work on pulmonary hypertension.

2014 - Ke Yuan, Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Stanford was awarded the 2014 AHA Cournand and Comroe Award at the American Heart Association Scientific Session annual council dinner in Chicago this November for her research: “Activation of the Wnt/Planar Cell Polarity Pathway is Required for Pericyte Recruitment During Pulmonary Angiogenesis.” The award acknowledges the research and accomplishments of early career investigator members of the council and encourages them to continue their research in biomedical sciences. This is the top young investigator award offered by the AHA 3CPR Council for her work on pulmonary hypertension. This is a very competitive award that requires submission of a fully completed manuscript to be considered as a finalist followed by an oral presentation to a panel of judges. Ke did an outstanding presentation and deserves congratulations on this very prestigious award.

Congratulations to Jack Takahashi!

Jack is one of the finalists in the prestigious Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS) competition for his project entitled "Breathe Deeply". This is a great achievement as more than 3,000 students enter each year and only 40 are chosen to traveled to Washington to present their projects to scientific leaders who will judge their project. In addition, Jack made a very strong commitment to educating his audience about PAH which included our president Barack Obama! He completed his project in Dr. Vinicio de Jesus Perez's lab under his mentorship.

Dr. Rabinovitch receives research award from the Cardiovascular Medical Research and Education Fund (CMREF)

Rabinovitch Lab GroupRabinovitch LabDr. Marlene Rabinovitch has received a five year award from the Cardiovascular Medical Research and Education Fund (CMREF). Dr. Rabinovitch and the Wall Center Team, in collaboration with UCSF and the University of Toronto, will serve as a transplant and preparation center studying the lungs from patients with idiopathic pulmonary hypertension (IPAH) as well as secondary forms of pulmonary arterial hypertension and control patients without pulmonary hypertension. To learn more about Dr. Rabinovitch’s research click here.

The Cardiovascular Medical Research and Education Fund was created as a non-profit fund operated solely for charitable, scientific and educational purposes. The CMREF mission is the support of research to uncover the etiology and pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH, or PPH), in pursuit of the ultimate goal of its treatment and cure. The immediate objectives are a) to define the cellular basis of IPAH through the study of affected lung tissue, b) to describe the molecular pathways involved in the disease, and c) to identify genetic associations with the IPAH clinical phenotype.
