Each of the hospitals we provide blood products to is within the Bay Area which means that if you’re a Stanford Blood Center donor, your blood donations are helping the patients within our community. We keep in direct contact with the hospitals throughout the day, allowing us to manage our inventory as best we can. You may have seen pleas from us asking for an immediate response to a blood shortage. This happens when our inventory has dropped to a level where the demand is greater than our supply.

Having a firsthand understanding of the need for blood, most of the hospitals we serve are doing their part to help bolster the supply by hosting blood drives with us. Here are some examples of the excellent work they’ve done in helping keep a surplus of blood:

Stanford Hospital:
• Number of years hosting drives: 24
• Total number of drives: 80
• Total number of units collected: 5,445

LPCH:
• Number of years hosting drives: 6
• Total number of drives: 6
• Total number of units collected: 172

O’Connor Hospital:
• Number of years hosting drives: 14
• Total number of drives: 35
• Total number of units collected: 1,289

We are grateful for the support we’ve received from these hospitals and the generous donors who signed up to give blood. Our next hospital drive is on May 27 with Stanford and we will be celebrating 25 years of blood drives! The public is welcome so please stop by if you’d like to donate. Online appointments will open up at the end of April.
