Re-entry Testing Updates

Reentry Testing Program Now Available for Select Blood Donors

If your last blood donation at Stanford Blood Center tested “falsely positive” or “indeterminate,” and the test was related to Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C or HIV, you may be eligible to participate in our “Reentry Testing Program” to re-qualify for community blood donations. (Please note: donors who were reactive on the Hepatitis B Core Antibody (HBcAb) screen, or whose test result was not obtained at Stanford Blood Center, or who confirmed positive on any screening test, are not eligible for reentry testing.)

If you are interested, please contact Judy Kawamoto by phone at 650-723-2597 or email judy.kawamoto@stanford.edu to initiate the screening process for reentry testing qualification. Please tell her that you are interested in the Reentry Testing Program.

HEPATITIS B ANTIBODY (HBCAB) SCREENING TEST UPDATE

Update for donors who had a one-time, abnormal result on this screening test prior to 2007:

In 2007, Stanford Blood Center implemented a new screening test for Hepatitis B Core Antibody (PRISM-HBcAb). If you had a one-time, abnormal result on this screening test prior to 2007 and were told to hold off from donating, we now welcome you to schedule your next blood donation appointment. (Please note: we currently do not offer reentry testing for donors who have reacted twice on this screening test.)

Before coming in to donate at Stanford Blood Center, please read the following:

  • If a different blood center informed you of a reactive result on their Hepatitis B Core Antibody Screen, please call Arlene Layon, Medical Services Manager, at (650) 723-2597.
  • If you have donated apheresis (plateletpheresis) in the past, we require that you donate at least twowhole blood donations to start. Afterwards, if you would like to be reinstated into our apheresis program, please contact Arlene Layon, Medical Services Manager, at 650-723-2597.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved donor reentry mechanisms for these tests at this time. If you have any questions about this, please call Arlene Layon, Medical Services Manager, at 650-723-2597.
