Welcome to Engleman Laboratory

Professor of Pathology and of Medicine (Immunology and Rheumatology)

Welcome from Dr. Engleman

We invite you to explore our website to have an in depth look at our research projects. We study the biology of immune cells and their roles in the pathogenesis of cancers and other life-threatening diseases. Based on what we learn, we strive to discover and develop new ways to reverse these immune cell abnormalities and thereby treat and hopefully cure disease.

The immune system impacts a wide range of processes in most tissues and organs. By applying new and more precise analytical tools for assessing this system in mice and humans, we have been successful at identifying disease-promoting immune abnormalities. By targeting the cells responsible for or affected by these abnormalities, we have succeeded in reversing the abnormalities and ameliorating the diseases they cause. These advances would not have been possible without the support of the Stanford Blood Center. Equally important has been a collaborative research environment in which individuals are encouraged to pursue their own high-risk/high reward ideas.
