Custom Synthesis

The Stanford ChEM-H Medicinal Chemistry Knowledge Center is happy to work with any Stanford research group to access tool compounds for their research needs. There are several methods by which this can be achieved. Our staff will work with you to help you determine which option makes the most sense for your scientific and budgetary needs.

Protein Bound to Small Molecule

Compound Purchase Assistance

ChEM-H can help you identify a source for purchasing your compound of interest through the following available chemical directories:

Training and Hosting

If you have a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow in your research group who is interested in learning how to synthesizing a compound, ChEM-H can host and train your student. ChEM-H med chem staff can provide mentorship to ensure all synthesis is performed safely and efficiently. In exchange, faculty are required to cover the costs of chemicals, consumable lab supplies and analysis through our allocation PTA system.

Outsourced Contract Synthesis

ChEM-H can arrange for a contract research organization (CRO) to perform the synthesis on your behalf. Our staff have relationships with local and global companies that specialize in chemical synthesis. Quotes for these services will vary considerably based on the level of complexity of the molecule. To get a rough estimate, you can assume $500-800 per synthetic step.

In-house Compound Synthesis

Our staff at the Stanford ChEM-H Medicinal Chemistry Knowledge Center can perform the chemistry for your research group. The availability of in-house chemical synthesis services depends on the availability of our synthetic chemistry staff (currently limited). Faculty interested in in-house custom synthesis projects need to cover the costs of chemical, consumable lab supplies, analysis and ChEM-H staff time.
