Message From the Director

Grant Miller in rural Bihar

Kim Singer Babiarz

To really understand why health policies and programs succeed or fail, one has to see the world through the eyes of providers and patients. Many programs are created because they seem logical from the outside - but without understanding the priorities or motives of individual actors (patients, community members, providers, bureaucrats, entrepreneurs, and policymakers), they are unlikely to succeed. Related to this, a large amount of health policy research does not start from the right foundation – the experience, knowledge, and insights of those intimately involved in health delivery who really know the challenges best.  Our Initiative is fundamentally shaped by this approach and is committed to tackling India-led priorities through strong collaboration with our Indian partners from all sectors and arenas.
