Chonira Aturupane has been teaching in the IPS program since 2004.  She was previously an economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the Policy Development and Review Department (now the Strategy, Policy, and Review Department) and the Asia and Pacific Department.  In addition to policy work on international finance issues, she also traveled extensively on IMF missions including those to Samoa, Mongolia and Azerbaijan. During 2008-2009, she served as a consultant to the Independent Evaluation Office (IEO) of the International Monetary Fund and was a contributing author of its report, IMF Involvement in International Trade Policy Issues.  Among her other published work are articles on intra-industry trade, corruption and trade in “Bads.”  Her teaching and research interests include international finance, international trade, economic growth, and the economics of corruption.  She received a PhD and MA in Economics from Stanford University and a BA in Economics from Smith College.
