Please join me in welcoming our new Biology Librarian Kristen Greenland to the Stanford Libraries! Kristen began her role on January 23, 2023. Prior to coming to Stanford, Kristen was the Chemical & Physical Sciences Librarian at UC Berkeley and supported teaching and research in the Physics, Astronomy, Chemistry, and Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering departments.

Kristen received a BA in Biology from Carleton College and a PhD in Molecular & Cellular Biology from the University of Washington. Her research involved studying the yeast cell cycle and how the mitotic spindle is regulated during cell division.

After completing her PhD, Kristen continued at the University of Washington and earned an MLIS. She then became an Associate Fellow at the National Library of Medicine, where she was able to combine her interests in biomedical research and librarianship through project-based learning.

Kristen then worked as the Science Librarian at Amherst College and developed a strong teaching background through partnerships with faculty. One meaningful partnership is Kristen’s support for the Being Human in STEM Initiative started by students and a chemistry faculty member. This initiative has grown into a national network of faculty and students who develop and teach student-directed, project-based courses on diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM.

Welcome, Kristen!
