LGBTQ Health

Vaden Health Center provides a welcoming, safe environment for all students and is dedicated to LGBTQ inclusion in our services. Students may request a clinician who has specialized training in working with gender and sexuality. You can make an appointment online with a clinician with experience in transgender health care at the VadenPatient portal and checking the “Transgender Health Concerns” box. Providers strive to use whatever language students find most comfortable regarding sex, gender, and identity.

Counseling

CAPS offers a welcoming and safe environment for all students and is dedicated to providing the highest level of care to students across all genders and sexual orientations, including Stanford’s LGBTQ community.

CAPS therapists are available to help students experiencing a wide variety of personal and relationship concerns. Visit the CAPS homepage or call 650-723-3785 to make an appointment. During your CAPS triage appointment, inform the clinician that you would prefer seeing a CAPS therapist who has specialized training in working with gender and sexuality. You also can identify a counselor with extensive training in LGBTQ mental health issues by an asterisk posted next to his or her name and a note on their profile the Staff Page.

Individual preliminary counseling services at CAPS are confidential and free of charge. Couples counseling is available for registered students and their partners of any gender. There is no fee for brief couples counseling at CAPS.

The Weiland Health Initiative sponsors drop-in counseling hours specifically for LGBTQ-identified students. The clinicians working during these LGBTQ drop-in hours have extensive experience and comfort with LGBTQ mental health issues.
