The emergence of homemade explosive threats has challenged aviation security screening. Explosives Trace Detectors (ETDs), used for secondary screening, need to detect a wider range of threats in baggage, on passengers at aviation checkpoints or in cargo at air cargo facilities.
EXD is working to develop new technologies that will provide enhanced trace detection capabilities for a broader range of threats. New ETD systems will also be usable beyond the airport environment, including at borders, ports and at large events where secondary screening may also be required.
