Instructions for Writing Your Personal Statement
You are required to submit a Personal Statement as part of the Graduate Application for either the MS or PhD degree. The Personal Statement is a very important component of your application. Please read and consider the mission statement (shown below) thoroughly. The Admissions Committee will read your Personal Statement carefully to determine how well your aspirations align with the mission of the BMI Training Program.
In your Personal Statement, please tell us how your schooling, work, research, and life experience prepares you for study at BMI, describe your research interests and career goals, and explain how our training program will enable you to achieve them.
The Personal Statement should be 1-2 pages.
Biomedical Informatics Program Mission Statement
The program in Biomedical Informatics emphasizes research to develop and apply novel computational methods that can advance biomedicine. Students receive training in the investigation of new approaches to conceptual modeling and to development of new algorithms that address challenging problems in the biological sciences and clinical medicine.
Students who seek graduate training in biomedicine and who wish to use computational methods in their pursuit of research questions in those domain areas may be better suited to other Stanford's graduate programs in the Biosciences. Please consider your choice of Home Program carefully.
