Kieran Oberman

University of Edinburgh

Kieran Oberman came to Stanford after completing his PhD at Oxford University.  His thesis, "Immigration and Freedom of Movement," argued that people have a human right to freedom of movement that entails a right to cross international borders, and concluded that immigration restrictions could not be justified outside of emergency situations.  While at Stanford, Oberman continued to focus on the ethical issues surrounding international migration, and published an article in Political Studies, "Immigration, Global Poverty and the Right to Stay", which argued against using migration as a means to address the problem of global poverty. After Stanford, Oberman was a teaching fellow at the University College Dublin School of Politics and International Relations.
