Patient Care

Our Young Patients Come First

Drawing on the expertise of its divisions, the Department of Pediatrics delivers the most advanced care available today while empowering families as equal partners in their children's health.

As part of the Stanford University Medical Center, Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH) serves as the department's primary clinical site. Devoted to the care of infants, children, adolescent and expectant mothers, LPCH draws on the department's broad expertise in child development, from early gestation through young adulthood. In addition to providing primary care for local families, LPCH is the main referral hospital for a large network of pediatricians throughout the Bay Area and a nationally recognized tertiary and quaternary care center for children with complex and acute conditions. Faculty members also provide services through Stanford University Hospital and the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

As academic clinicians, our faculty strives to expand the frontiers of pediatric medicine through ongoing investigation and clinical trials.

As health-care advocates, department faculty conduct outreach services to ensure the highest standard of care locally and across the western United States, Alaska and Hawaii. Whether staffing a mobile health van for homeless teenagers in the Bay Area or running a liver transplant clinic in New Mexico, this hub-and-spoke model expands the reach of our services and number of families receiving world-class care in their local communities. Moreover, it provides important educational opportunities for community pediatricians to learn about the latest advances in their area of specialty and helps connect children outside of the Bay Area with appropriate clinical trials.
