Clean air initiatives

What we’re doing: Through science, advocacy, and the courts, we’re focused on defending existing clean air standards and closing the policy loopholes that expose many Americans to air pollution.

Why: Air pollutants take a steep toll on human health. Clean air standards will save thousands of lives – especially in at-risk communities – and must be protected and enforced.

  • Soot and smog

Protect Americans from smog and other major air pollutants

We’re fighting to defend standards that limit smog, soot and other pollutants emitted by power plants that burn fossil fuels.

  • Natural gas

Trim pollutants from oil and gas development

We’re working to defend and advance policies that protect communities near oil- and gas-production facilities that emit methane along with smog- and cancer-forming pollution.

  • Google Street View car

Map air pollution with new mobile sensors

Air pollution is harmful to our health. It’s also invisible and hard to measure. With Google, we convened a team to map it – in detail nearly impossible before.
