E-IPER welcomes support from individuals, foundations, and organizations who share our goal of training the next generation of environmental leaders and scholars for a sustainable world. Stanford launched E-IPER in 2001 with grants from the Henry Luce Foundation and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation and with funds from the School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences. In February 2009, Dan and Rae Emmett made a generous endowed gift, helping to establish E-IPER's long-term financial sustainability.

E-IPER students and their research are supported by competitive fellowships from sources within and outside of Stanford including endowed fellowships received through the Stanford Challenge's Initiative on Environment and Sustainability. These generous endowed fellowships are critical to our mission, since E-IPER students' work often falls outside of the traditional disciplinary boundaries of graduate funding sources.

Areas of Need

Endowed Graduate Fellowships

To attract the most talented and promising applicants, E-IPER guarantees PhD student fellowship (tuition and stipend) support for up to five years. Endowed fellowships exist in perpetuity and may be named for the donor or someone the donor wishes to honor.

Research Support

E-IPER students conduct research on six continents drawing from a variety of disciplines and methods to address urgent environmental problems. E-IPER student research funds will contribute to cutting edge, high quality and rigorous research.

Director's Funds

Discretionary support will fund E-IPER's program activities, including curriculum development, teaching, and student travel to key conferences and events, alumni engagement activities, and new initiatives. Director's Funds may be endowed and named for their donor or someone the donor wishes to honor.
