Language, Culture, and Identity
Educational outcomes are not determined by policies and practices alone. Schooling, by nature, is a social and cultural undertaking. Understanding how linguistic styles, social categories of difference (e.g., social class, race, ethnicity, gender), and identity processes work in educational contexts is paramount to designing and implementing successful policy and practice solutions around equity and diversity. SCOPE’s work in this area aims to demonstrate how and why language, culture, and identity matter for education policy and practice.
