Research opportunities

Undergraduate

Most engineering departments offer Stanford undergraduates a Research Experience for Undergraduates  (REU) program, many with stipends to conduct research during the summer. The program is designed to give undergraduates an opportunity to work with faculty members and their research groups on advanced research topics.

Graduate

At the School of Engineering, departments have different program requirements; some require research, others don't. Some PhD programs match students with research advisors before matriculation. Others expect you to find your own placement. Visit your department’s site to learn of its policies and producedures. It is important to read your graduate handbook and communicate with your student services office frequently.

Course selection and planning

If you are thinking about declaring an engineering major but would like to test the waters before committing, introductory seminars are available in several engineering topics.

Programs

Global Engineering Program

The Global Engineering Program provides students with an opportunity to learn about technology and engineering globally, with several options available each year.

Engineering Diversity Program

The Engineering Diversity Program seeks to achieve excellence, equality and diversity for Stanford Engineering students by recruiting, retaining and graduating diverse students.
