Education Partnerships

Student mentor working with children

Education Partnerships comprises four mentoring and tutoring programs committed to the development of educational equity in our communities. The programs share an organizational structure that encourages student engagement: a Haas Center staff program director, a pool of 20 to 40 volunteer mentors or tutors, and a Stanford student leadership team of 3–7 team leaders.

Mission

We promote educational equity in our local communities by engaging Stanford students and community youth in mentoring and tutoring relationships.

Four Programs

  • Preschool Counts: Stanford students share math learning with East Palo Alto children so they are prepared to succeed in elementary school. (Partner: Ravenswood Child Development Center)
  • Ravenswood Reads: Stanford students are tutors in reading and language acquisition for 1st-3rd graders, most of whom are learning English as a second language. (Partner: Ravenswood City School District)
  • Science in Service: Stanford students are mentors to 4th-8th grade students on hands-on, project-based science activities. (Partners: Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula and Citizen Schools)
  • East Palo Alto Stanford Academy (EPASA): Stanford students are mentors to East Palo Alto middle school students who receive academic support in language arts and mathematics, academic enrichment and one-on-one mentorship. (Partner: Ravenswood City School District)

Education Partnerships Small Grant

Open to Stanford students and student groups working with youth and education.

The Education Partnerships (EdP) division at the Haas Center for Public Service will release a request for grant proposals that support community youth and families and further the overall EdP mission of achieving educational equity in our neighboring communities in early January 2016.  Find out more!
