Office 365 Migration What you can do to set up Office 365 for your Stanford email and calendar
Stanford’s Email and Calendar service will move from Zimbra to Office 365, Microsoft's cloud-based service, between July 13 and August 10, 2015. Zimbra Tasks and Personal Contact lists will also migrate. Your @stanford.edu email address will not change.
You can access Office 365 via a number of methods:
- Web interface (Outlook Web App)
- Desktop clients such as Outlook, Apple Mail, and Thunderbird
- Mobile devices
If you currently use the Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird client on your computer, you will see no significant difference (but your client must be updated with new configuration settings). Any mail that you have saved to your desktop will not be affected by the change.
If you currently use Zimbra webmail (webmail.stanford.edu) and web calendar (webcal.stanford.edu), the look and feel of Office 365 will be different. You can get a head start on the new functionality by using Stanford's free online video library at lynda.stanford.edu to take this course: Outlook Web App (OWA) 2013 Essential Training.
An on-premise Exchange mailbox and calendar service will be available to people and departments upon request for a monthly fee.

Over the following four Mondays (July 20 & 27, August 3 & 10), faculty and staff email, calendars, tasks and contacts will be switched to Office 365. We will stage these moves by school/department, so that units will move together. The scheduling of these moves is still in progress.
Update: 7/13/15
Graduate students and DAPER (Department of Athletics, PE and Recreation were cut over to Office 365.
Update 7/16/15
All calendar resources will be copied to Office 365 today and tomorrow. This means that for the duration of the migration (mid-August), resources such as conference rooms, equipment and vacation/holiday calendars will be available in both Zimbra and Office 365. For resources such as conference rooms that are scheduled into meetings, two confirmation/decline emails will be sent to to the scheduler - one for Office 365 and one for Zimbra.
