Thinking Matters Requirement

Students are required to take one Thinking Matters course during their freshman year.

Most students will take one stand-alone course selected from approximately eight courses offered each quarter.

Another way to satisfy the Thinking Matters requirement is through one of three residence-based, year-long programs, including Immersion in the Arts: Living in Culture (ITALIC), Science in the Making Integrated Learning Environment (SIMILE), and Structured Liberal Education (SLE). (Note that each of these also satisfies at least part of the Writing and Rhetoric Requirement as well as several WAYS requirements.)

Finally, in Autumn Quarter only, students may enroll in Education as Self-Fashioning (ESF) that will satisfy the Thinking Matters requirement as well as PWR 1.

Note that all Thinking Matters courses also satisfy one or more of the Ways of Thinking/Ways of Doing requirements.
