Why Should I Talk to an Advisor?

About Advising

Stanford offers a range of advising options. Take advantage of Stanford advising because good advising is the key to getting the most out of your Stanford experience.

Types of Advisors

Pre-Major Advisor

Your Pre-Major Advisor (PMA) can help you connect with the Stanford community, advising you on how to network and build the relationships that are such a valuable part of the Stanford experience. You should meet with your PMA when you need to reflect, consider, weigh options and make choices, check in, re-think your assumptions, get a new point of view, or survey potential opportunities.

Academic Advising Director

Your UAR Academic Advising Director (AAD) can help you navigate University policies and procedures, understand requirements and prerequisites, or help you determine whether a potential class, research opportunity, or major is a good fit for you and your interests. Your AAD has a deep understanding of the university’s offerings, and can help you find things you do not even know you are looking for.

Athletic Advisor

Your UAR AARC advisor can help you coordinate your responsibilities as an athlete and a scholar, and can connect you with accessible resources and support. Your AARC advisor can also help you navigate University policies and procedures, find opportunities, and make decisions that are a good fit for you and your goals. Your AARC advisor is not just a Stanford expert, but an eligibility expert as well.
