Community Engaged Learning for Students

Community Engaged Learning is an opportunity for you to enhance and deepen your classroom learning through structured experiences with community partners. The Community Engaged Learning team helps Stanford students identify courses, research projects, and internships that address pressing social and environmental challenges.

Use our coursefeed (at the bottom of the page), or search ExploreCourses for "CEL".

Check out the service-learning classes for Autumn, Winter, and Spring

Use the Haas Center's Fellowships, Internships, and Service Programs database.

Check out our CEL internships page for a few current opportunities.

Search the Center for Career Development's job listings for "Social Impact" (SUNet IDs only).

Talk to your department student services associates; many departments with required internships (such as HumBioEarth Systems, and Urban Studies) maintain a list of partner organizations.

Watch your email inbox or use a search engine to locate an organization. If you don't feel comfortable making contact with an organization or community on your own, work with a DCEL to prepare for first contact.

Look into Undergraduate Fellowships through the Haas Center for Public Service.

Do you qualify for Community Service Work-Study?

Consider working with VPUE/UAR to fund your community-based research project.

Talk to a Director of Community Engaged Learning to navigate the funding process.

Consider taking our class on Preparing for Your Community-Based Internship.

Review our transportation options document to plan your transit.

Work through our online modules to prepare on your own time. (coming soon!)
