Ways Credit for Incoming Transfer Students

Transfer Students

Are you an incoming transfer student?

Beginning Autumn 2015-16, transfer students must fulfill a portion of their Ways at Stanford.  Based on the number of transfer units when you enter with in the Autumn quarter, you will need to complete a defined number of Ways courses as part of your undergrad requirements as defined listed below:

Courses must be tied to units earned in transfer, Ways courses must be taken for a minimum of 3 quarter units, except Creative Expression which is a minimum of two units; and must be taken for a letter grade, except when a Creative Expression course is offered "Satisfactory/No Credit" only (CE Courses offered "Letter or Credit/No Credit" must be taken for a letter grade).

*AP or other test transfer units are not eligible and are excluded from the qualified number of transfer units for Ways.

In most cases, you can typically fulfill 3 or more Ways courses in your major.  

Admitted in 2014-15?  

Transfer students admitted in 2014-15, can satisfy a portion of their Ways requirement by submitting course syllabi from previous institutions. Courses must be tied to units earned in transfer, be a minimum of 3 quarter units, and be taken for a letter grade, except for Creative Expression which is a minimum of 2 units, and must be taken for a letter grade, except when a Creative Expression course is offered "Satisfactory/No Credit" only (CE Courses offered "Letter or Credit/No Credit" must be taken for a letter grade).  All Ways transfer requests must be submitted by May 31, 2015.  

So how do you submit a request?  Complete the Request for Transfer Credit Evaluation form including the Ways Transfer Credit Request Addendum (page 3).  Carefully read the Ways Syllabus Guidelines to ensure your course syllabus meet the criteria.

Once you have completed the form(s), submit your request packet, including all syllabi, to the Sally Mentzer, Coordinator of Transfer Advising.  It typically takes 4 weeks to process your Ways transfer request and you will be notified of the transfer credit decision via e-mail.

You also have the option to change to the new 2015-16 Ways transfer credit requirement program by contacting Sally Mentzer by May 31, 2015.
