Capital Projects - Big Things are Happening at the
Berkeley Waterfront: -
Transformative and impactful projects are in progress at the
Berkeley Waterfront. The University
Avenue realignment and reconfiguration, a part of the Marina
Streets Paving work, will improve the pavement condition and reconfigure
lanes for the safety of pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists. Important steps
are underway that will allow the Berkeley
Pier to be reopened to the public. This includes the planning studies,
design, environmental work, regulatory clearances necessary to reach a shovel‐ready
Berkeley Pier. A draft structural study of Berkeley Pier renovation
alternatives has been completed, and an MOU with WETA to coordinate scope and
secure funding for additional planning work was recently approved by the City
Council.
Successfully completing projects is an important part of
what we do. A new public restroom, new windsurfing area, and new landscaped
parking lot were completed at the South Cove Sailing Basin in 2018. The
San Francisco Bay Trail now runs to the South Sailing Basin. Construction
to extend the Bay Trail to Adventure Playground is slated for completion in
Summer, 2020. To learn more about these projects and others coming down the
pike, view our Measure
T1 Infrastructure Bond Interactive Story Map (T1 Projects Only), and
our Capital Projects page.
