Flex Routes Pilot Project

SamTrans Introduces Two Flex Routes

As part of a one-year pilot program, SamTrans launched two weekday bus routes jan. 27, 2014 that are a mixture of fixed and flexible routing for customer convenience.  The routes – FLX Pacifica and FLX San Carlos – serve SamTrans bus stops for the fixed routing.  For the flexible routing part of the service, the bus picks up customers directly from their homes or other locations within the defined service area.  Buses only stop to serve customers where it’s safe to do so and won’t go in private driveways, public parking lots or shopping centers.  SamTrans fares apply.  SamTrans is using 25-foot wheelchair lift-equipped buses with bike racks for the pilot project.  Route schedules and maps are available at www.samtrans.com/timetables and at the Pacifica and San Carlos city halls.

FLX Pacifica

Service area: The bus travels clockwise from the Linda Mar Park & Ride along Highway 1 to Crespi Drive, Fassler Avenue, Terra Nova Boulevard, Oddstad Boulevard and back to Linda Mar Boulevard.

Service flexibility: The bus operates on a fixed schedule serving SamTrans bus stops.  Customers are able to arrange for direct service within one-half mile of the route by calling one day in advance.

Service hours: Buses operate every 45 minutes weekdays from about 6:15 a.m. to 6:50 p.m.

To arrange a ride: Call 650-560-0360 up to one day before they want to travel.  Rides are reserved based on availability.

FLX San Carlos

Service area: The bus begins its fixed-route schedule at the San Carlos Caltrain Station.  In the morning, the route travels along El Camino Real, Taylor Way, Industrial Road, Redwood City Transit Center, Brewster Avenue, Alameda de las Pulgas, Brittan Avenue, Cedar Street and San Carlos Avenue.  During the afternoon commute, the route operates in the reverse direction (San Carlos Avenue, Cedar Street, Brittan Avenue, Alameda de las Pulgas, Brewster Avenue, Redwood City Transit Center, Industrial Road and Taylor Way) before returning to the train station.

Service flexibility: The bus operates on a fixed route, serving SamTrans bus stops in the morning and afternoon commute periods.   Customers are able to arrange for direct service when the bus isn’t operating on a fixed route by calling in advance.

Service hours: Buses operate weekdays on a set schedule from 6:50 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and again from 3:14 p.m. to 7:14 p.m.  From 10:15 a.m. to 3:14 p.m., customers can arrange to have the bus pick them up and drop them off at locations throughout San Carlos.

To arrange a ride: Call 650-560-0360 up to one day before they want to travel.  Rides are reserved based on availability.
