Environmental review is intended to inform the public and responsible government agencies of the environmental consequences of their decisions before they are made. VTA prepares environmental studies and reports pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Studies and reports are posted on corresponding project pages and circulated to the public for review and comment.
Only rain is allowed down the storm drain. VTA’s Stormwater Management Program seeks to prevent pollution from entering storm drains which flow directly to local waterways without treatment.
VTA is committed to creating a greener Santa Clara Valley through its Sustainability Program. The program seeks to meet today's needs without compromising future generations. VTA's Sustainability Program strengthens VTA's commitment to the environment through the conservation of natural resources, the reduction of greenhouse gases, the prevention of pollution and the use of renewable energy and materials.
VTA designs projects to avoid or minimize permanent impacts to sensitive habitats and habitats that are essential for the survival of special status animals and plants. When impacts are unavoidable, VTA mitigates or compensates for the loss of habitats by preserving, enhancing, restoring, or creating habitats near the project site. Each habitat restoration site or conservation area is unique, and VTA must conduct several years of monitoring at these locations to ensure that the goals of the mitigation are achieved.
