Jorge Macias

Urban Development Director, WRI México

Bio

Jorge Macias is the Urban Development Director for the Center of Sustainable Transport at EMBARQ Mexico. He previously worked as General Deputy Director for Sustainable Urban Development and as the Environmental Economics Director in the Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis. His duties included the technical evaluation of public policies, institutional relationship between the different states and cities that conform the central region of Mexico and alliances with international collaboration institutions (both from North America and the European Union). Some of his project highlights include working with GIZ and USAID in the implementation of Low Emission Zones, Urban Development and the Inspection & Maintenance Program for the Megalopolis.

He has a BA in Economics from ITESM, a Finance Specialization by the University of British Columbia and a Master of Philosophy Degree in Environmental & Development Economics from the University of Oslo. He has been consultant for various projects, studies and publications for institutions such as the World Bank, Interamerican Development Bank, United Nations Environmental Program, OCDE, SEMARNAT, Corporación Andina de Fomento, SEDEMA, etc.
