Archive of Recorded Sound

The Archive of Recorded Sound's collection contains over 400,000 items that span sound recording history--from its beginnings to the present day. Nearly all formats ever developed to record sound are represented: wax cylinders; shellac, acetate, aluminum, and vinyl discs; magnetic wire and tape recordings; compact discs. Collections are particularly strong in the areas of jazz and opera.

Continuing Studies

Continuing Studies welcomes all adult members of the community—working, retired, or somewhere in between. Take music courses for pleasure, personal enrichment, or professional development.

Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band

Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band (LSJUMB) is based in the Athletics Program. Traditional marching skills are not encouraged. Auditions are held at the beginning of the school year.

Mariachi Cardenal de Stanford

Mariachi Cardenal was founded in Casa Zapata during the 1994-1995 school year by students of Stanford University. From humble beginnings of a few members, it has grown to over 15 members and become and integral part of the Chicano community at Stanford. The members come from different musical backgrounds but have come together with guidance from professional mariachis from the Bay Area and have evolved into a successful ensemble.

Music4All

Since its establishment in 2004, Music4All has linked Stanford students with the local community through music. Their members come from diverse backgrounds of the undergraduate and graduate community and from all majors. In the past, Music4All organized on-campus events such as a disability awareness concert at the CoHo and 5-minute performances at dorm meetings, and many more off-campus concerts at the San Mateo Disability School , Menlo Park Veterans Hospital, Menlo Park Convalescent Hospital, Palo Alto Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Agnews Mental Hospital, Russell Bede School, and the Children’s Health Council.

Music Library

The Music Library provides research support for all aspects of music scholarship. Collections include over 130,000 books and scores, 30,000 sound and video recordings, multiple streaming media databases and other digitized content. Recording collections are greatly enhanced by the Archive of Recorded Sound. Librarians offer instruction on research methods and use of resources. Tours are available year-round.

Savoyards

The Stanford Savoyards is a student-run theatre company open to the public for cast and crew. We have proudly been presenting the light operas of Gilbert and Sullivan on the Stanford University campus since 1973. Typically the Stanford Savoyards produce two fully-staged operettas with orchestra per season.

Stanford Live

Stanford Live provides a broad range of programs that increase arts access for our community and offer many ways to engage with the performing arts.
