Seven Trees Community Center and Branch Library receives APWA Project of the Year Award
On August 26, 2013, the Public Works Department accepted an award for Project of the Year – Structures $25M - $75M from the American Public Works Association (APWA) at its annual national conference in Chicago, Illinois. The project consisted of the construction of a new two-story, 58,000 square-foot combined community center and library, adjacent to Solari Park at the southeast corner of Capitol Expressway and Seven Trees Boulevard in central San José. Although construction was completed in July 2011, the facility became fully operational with the grand opening of the library portion in January 2013.

San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility earns National Gold Standard Award
The San José-Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility received a Gold Peak Performance Award from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies. The Gold Award acknowledged the Regional Wastewater Facility’s 100 percent compliance with federal permit requirements in 2012. 

Mineta San José International Airport recognized by ACI-NA in the 2013 Excellence in Marketing and Communications Contest
SJC received a third place award in the Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA) 2013 Excellence in Marketing and Communications Contest in the Video & Film Productions category. SJC: This is the Silicon Valley Opportunity is the Air Service Development video created to showcase Mineta San José International as Silicon Valley’s airport of choice, highlight the region as home to many of the world's largest global technology companies within a close proximity of SJC, and illustrate San José as the gateway to Northern California to new and existing airlines. The video, shared at international air service networking conferences, captures the spirit of Silicon Valley and San José by highlighting the cultural diversity of the area, the global crossroads of high technology and innovation, and world-famous destinations surrounding SJC.

Happy Hollow Park & Zoo receives the Acterra Business Environmental Award
On Thursday, May 30, 2013, Happy Hollow Park & Zoo received the 2013 Business Environmental Award in the category of “Sustainable Built Environment” from Acterra, the environmental non-profit serving the Bay Area. Staff, members of the Happy Hollow Foundation, judges, Acterra Board Members and Silicon Valley CEOs gathered at the Intuit campus to celebrate the accomplishments of the Bay Area’s environmental leaders.

The judges were particularly impressed by the team-driven approach to the green redesign of the park, strategic repositioning of the entrance to create awareness of the adjacent watershed, extensive use of native landscaping, providing opportunities for visitors to participate in conservation, comprehensive educational outreach to the community and a willingness to serve as a model within the industry.

Acterra’s Business Environmental Awards is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s oldest and most prestigious environmental recognition programs. Initiated in 1990, it is considered a heavyweight among award programs due to its rigorous application and judging process.

Municipal Rose Garden receives 2013 Great Rosarians of the World Award
The San José Municipal Rose Garden received the Great Rosarians of the World Hall of Fame Award by the American Rose Society during the society's lecture series in New York City.

San José receives top honors as most “EV Ready” large community
The City of San José was awarded 1st place for being the most electric vehicle ready large community in the Bay Area. The Bay Area Climate Collaborative (BACC) and the Silicon Valley Leadership Group announced the winners of the 2013 Ready, Set, Charge! Bay Area Electric Vehicle (EV) Readiness Awards at the 2013 Silicon Valley Driving Charged & Connected Symposium.

City of San José website awarded first place in statewide competition
San José recently received top honors for its website, www.sanjoseca.gov, in the California Association of Public Information Officials “2013 Excellence in Communication Awards” program at the annual CAPIO conference.
