Kari Nadeau, MD, PhD, FAAAAI

Dr. Kari Nadeau is one of the nation’s foremost experts in adult and pediatric allergy and asthma. She is the Director of the Sean N. Parker Center for Allergy and Asthma Research at Stanford University and is an endowed professor under the Naddisy Family Foundation. Her research group resides in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.

She leads a team of specialists spanning areas as diverse as allergy, asthma, and immunology; adult medicine; pediatric medicine; otolaryngology; gastroenterology; pulmonology; genetics; health research and policy, statistics, and informatics; immunity, transplant, and infectious diseases; psychology; pathology; chemical engineering; preventative medicine; and bioengineering.

Her medical research and clinical practice, in addition to her accomplishments in drug development in the biotech industry, have given her the tools to manage the complex web of asthma and allergy research.

Research focus

Dr. Nadeau studies the mechanisms involved in allergies and asthma to better understand how to prevent and cure these diseases. She has led many clinical research studies of asthma and allergic disorders.

Dr. Nadeau’s work has been recognized with numerous grants and awards, and her research is part of a prestigious Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). As a member of a national network of leading allergy and asthma researchers, Dr. Nadeau collaborates with colleagues from institutions around the globe and the United Nations. She also frequently presents at national and international meetings to share her findings and to exchange ideas with colleagues.

Honors and degrees

Dr. Nadeau has received honors and awards from the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology; the American Lung Association; the Clinical Immunological Society; Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE); and the NIH. She has also been recognized with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s STAR Grant Award.

Dr. Nadeau received her MD and PhD from Harvard Medical School. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital and a clinical fellowship in asthma and immunology at Stanford and University of California, San Francisco. She has been a faculty member at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford since 2006. 

Dr. Nadeau has served as a reviewer for NIH Study Sections, and a member of the American Lung Association Medical Board, CA. She serves on the Environmental Health Policy committee for the American Thoracic Society and is a Fellow in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology as well as a member of ASCI (American Society of Clinical Investigation). She has authored or co-authored more than 160 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and has maintained an interest in the study of immune mechanisms in allergy and asthma for more than 20 years. Her laboratory focuses on the study of immunological mechanisms involved in the cause, diagnosis, and therapy for allergy and asthma.
