Minority Faculty Networking
In 2015, OFDD conducted a survey among Stanford Medicine’s underrepresented minority faculty about the types of programs and events that would be most useful for continued career advancement. Overwhelmingly, the top two items mentioned were:
- Understanding strategies for success for diverse faculty in academic medicine
- Networking opportunities
Stanford Medicine’s Minority Faculty Networking group’s meetings offer an occasion to meet with and learn from colleagues. At past events, we have heard from Stanford faculty panelists about strategies for success in academic medicine and we have honored the year’s HCOE/OFDD Faculty Fellows and the Dr. Augustus A. White and Family Faculty Professionalism Award honoree.
- In addition, each month OFDD hosts lunch with a small group of minority faculty to discuss research and clinical interests, faculty development concerns, and career advice across lines and ranks. This provides an opportunity for our faculty to get to know one another across different departments and specialties within Stanford Medicine in an intimate setting. Faculty invitations to these lunches are randomized; however, if you would like to participate in a lunch prior to random selection, please contact OFDD and we will include you in an upcoming lunch.
Professional Development
Our Minority Faculty are encouraged to participate in OFDD’s professional development workshops and leadership programs throughout the year.
