In the next few years, one of our goals at SIEPR is to increase our output of research on important, timely, policy-relevant topics while also strengthening relationships with government policy makers. To achieve this goal, we are funding up to 18 projects over two years in the following six priority research areas:

1.  Social insurance programs

2.  Tax policy

3.  State and local government finances

4.  Retirement and savings

5.  Education

6.  Crime, policing, and incarceration

The funds for these projects will be used to support early-career faculty to hire full-time research assistants to aid in the cleaning and processing of large-scale data sets including government administrative data, and support 3rd and 4th year Ph.D. students by providing a stipend, tuition, and a faculty mentor.  This support will strengthen the incentive for faculty and graduate students to pursue research on these topics, and influence these researchers to pursue research in policy-relevant topics at a time when they are most likely to respond.
