The Environmental Informatics Group provides a unique and focused research in:

· cutting-edge interdisciplinary research program for applying latest information technology, system engineering, and knowledge management for strategic development to the environmental engineering and sustainable development domain,

· information systems dealing with large amount of environmental and sustainable development data at multiple spatial-temporal scale and from cross-disciplinary research activities, its modeling and analysis, information processing and interoperability, information security, knowledge discovery and integration in environmental engineering and sustainable development domain,

· effective and ubiquitous access to information and knowledge in environmental engineering and sustainable development domain, and the use of IT and Internet for better efficiency in environmental engineering and sustainable development research activities and knowledge transferring into the environmental engineering industry, and

· design of new information technology for meeting special challenges in environmental informatics areas, especially the role of environmental informatics in sustainable development, E-government, homeland security, and globalization.
