Earth Systems Volpert Scholars Award

Overview

The Volpert Scholars Award, made possible through a generous gift of the Volpert family, provides financial support for work on research projects and internships undertaken by Earth Systems majors. Award recipients may receive up to $7000 to pursue research or internship activities that will foster students’ growth as interdisciplinary environmental scholars and problem-solvers. In addition, you may request up to $500 in laboratory analysis, equipment, or other expenses. The total budget may not exceed $7500.

This award is intended to support work (research or internships) undertaken by upper level Earth Systems majors that will foster their growth as environmental leaders. What distinguishes this program from many other similar programs at Stanford is that the Volpert Scholarship emphasizes work on interdisciplinary environmental leadership and scholarship. Only students who have declared a major in Earth Systems are eligible to apply, and awarded funds can be used to support work on either research or internships.

Advisor support

The selection committee will look for evidence of strong mentoring support by a Stanford faculty member. In the case of internship proposals, the primary advisor should be a faculty member, and the secondary advisor should have an affiliation with the organization at which you propose to do the internship.
