Stanford researchers examine energy’s effect on air quality in a number of ways, including increased urban pollution caused by switching from gasoline to ethanol, the effects of hydrogen fuel on air quality and reducing indoor air pollution through energy-efficient buildings. Globally, Stanford scientists are studying the effect of China's rising energy consumption on air quality, and investigating the barriers to replacing traditional indoor cook stoves, which kill several million of the world’s poorest people every year, with modern stoves.
