You may enroll in individual courses or pursue a graduate certificate especially designed for students in industry. Tailor your education to meet your specific interests and needs and get all the advantages of having a Stanford University credential.  All courses contributing to graduate certificates are available online during the academic quarters they are held on campus.

Graduate Certificate Application

When you enroll for the first time in an individual course or one contributing to a graduate certificate through the Stanford Center for Professional Development, you will need to create a mystanfordconnection account and complete a Non Degree Option application and, if applicable, indicate which certificate you would like to pursue. Once you are approved, you will be able to enroll in each subsequent course for your certificate in the quarter in which it is available, assuming you meet the courses' specific requirements.

Graduate Certificate Admissions Checklist

  • Prerequisites - Each course and certificate has specific prerequisites and requirements. Review the details page for the certificate you have selected to confirm that you meet all requirements.
  • Application - Complete a Non Degree Option online application, which includes a Statement of Purpose (200-word minimum). Specify the certificate you plan to pursue, if applicable.
  • Course Selection & Enrollment - Enroll in a qualifying certificate course during the quarterly enrollment period in which the course is being offered. There are enrollment deadlines for each quarter. Your application cannot be reviewed until you have identified the first course you wish to undertake. If the department declines your application, your payment will be reimbursed. 
  • Transcripts - Arrange for your transcripts (both graduate and undergraduate levels) to be submitted from ALL prior higher education institution(s) to SCPD Student and Client Services (transcripts must be in English - certified translated transcripts are acceptable).

To expedite the application review process, you may also email scanned unofficial copies of transcripts in pdf format to scpd-customerservice@stanford.edu.

  • Visa Documentation (if applicable) - For non-US citizens residing in the US, please email the following visa documents to scpd-customerservice@stanford.edu :
    • Picture page from your passport
    • Visa stamp page from your passport with issue and expiration dates
    • Current visa document, such as "Notice of Action"

Non-US citizens residing outside the US do not need to provide this information.

General Requirements

  • A conferred Bachelor’s degree
  • An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better

Academic Credit

Academic credit earned for each course that you successfully complete will range between 3 to 5 quarter units of credit, depending upon the course. Graduate certificates require the completion of 3 to 5 graduate courses.
