Career Development

BEAM: Bridging Education, Ambition & Meaningful Work offers students and alumni many ways to network and search for opportunities (jobs, internships, etc.) that relate to East Asian Studies. They also provide career counselors who can assist in the process. The following are just a few of the programs that BEAM offers:

Handshake can be used to connect with employers, apply for a wide variety of job and internship opportunities, and register for Career Fairs and other special events. Students can follow specific employers' activity by industry, location, size and more, and even make their profiles visible to employers allowing them to seek individual students out for opportunities.

Stanford CareerConnect Network is a database maintained by the Stanford Alumni Association of more than 10,500 alumni all over the world who have volunteered to be contacted for informational interviews. Users can search by location, job type, degree, etc.

Stanford Alumni Mentoring, allows student the opportunity to have meaningful conversations and build their Stanford connections. Students will have the chance to discover career pathways and life lessons from Stanford Alumni. SAM is open to all current students, and mentoring sessions are available during each quarter of the academic year.

East Asia Summer Internships, available for current CEAS MA students and all Stanford undergrads, provide partial support for internship positions in the People's Republic of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Singapore and Thailand. The participating host institutions and specific internship job descriptions are available on the Internships page. Each internship participant must commit to full-time work (a minimum of 35 hours per week) for eight (8) weeks.
