Hundreds of volunteers have contributed to the success of the Stanford Historical Society in accomplishing its mission and goals. Many of them long-time volunteers, our volunteers cherish the sense of community as well as the sense of gratification they feel as they help to document, share, and preserve Stanford’s history for future generations. We hope you will join the ranks of our talented and dedicated volunteer community.

Sustained Involvement

  • Oral History Program Volunteers.  Conduct oral history interviews or contribute your editing, indexing, curating, or multi-media skills to our post-interview processing team. Learn more.

One-time or Occasional Involvement on Stanford Campus

  • Office Helpers.  Assist with mailings, keep our records up to date, or work with any of our projects.
  • Event Staff. Be a part of our event team. Help with program registration, coordinate event logistics, or serve as a docent for our annual house tour.

One-time or Occasional Involvement On or Off-Campus

  • Desktop Publishers.  Use your design skills to help with postcard, brochure, or newsletter design.

SHS Board or Committee Involvement

  • The Stanford Historical Society is governed by a Board of Directors that has the responsibility to develop policies and procedures and programs for the Society; to monitor the Society’s financial health and overall performance; and to ensure that the Society has the resources necessary to fulfill its mission. Under the leadership of board members who serve as committee chairs, eight committees plan and execute the policies, operations, programs and events of the Society with the support of the staff members. Volunteer roles range from multi-year committee and board commitments to serving on working groups.
