See a Tutor
Now you can see a tutor in person or virtually!
During Fall 2021, both in-person and virtual writing and oral communication tutoring is available from Sunday, September 26 through Wednesday, December 8, 2021.
Please note the Hume Center will be closed on Tuesday, November 2nd in observance of Democracy Day at Stanford.
Also, drop-in writing tutoring begins on Sunday, September 26 and runs until Friday, December 3, and is a great option if you can't find an appointment.
Directions for In-Person Appointments in the Hume Center
- Visit our scheduling system (https://sututor.stanford.edu) to start to make an appointment with a writing or speaking tutor. You will need to WebAuth in with your SUNetID.
-
On the left-hand side, under Student Options, click “Search Availability.”
-
At the top of the left-hand column, click on the drop-down menu labelled “Please choose a Center." Choose “IN-PERSON Writing: Hume” for a writing appointment, or “IN-PERSON Oral Communication” for a speaking appointment.
-
If desired, adjust your search range: adjust the dates you'd like to search for by selecting the dates, use the slider to change the time of the appointments, and toggle the days you'd like to consider by clicking them.
-
Scroll down and click “Search.”
-
A list of open appointments will appear, but be mindful that they will not be ordered by time. Click on the time that works best for your schedule.
-
In the appointment confirmation pop-up, select your reason in the "Reason" drop-down menu. (For OCT appointments, also specify the number of additional attendees.) Click save.
You should receive a confirmation email after booking an appointment, and you can view your scheduled appointments from the TutorTrac main menu (this is also where you go to cancel an appointment).
-
When you arrive at the Hume Center, please log in at one of the kiosks located on either side of the Hume Center doors on the first floor, in the reception area on the first floor, or the two kiosks located on the second floor.
-
For writing appointments, complete the reflection and feedback survey after your session. Your tutor will share the URL with you at the end of your session. For OCT sessions, a feedback survey link will be emailed to you after your session.

Tutoring is available to every currently-enrolled Stanford undergraduate and graduate student. And, in keeping with University Policy, students on a leave of absence have access to tutoring on a limited basis to help them complete course work and/or facilitate their return to campus. All other Hume Center policies apply to students who book appointments while on a leave of absence.
